Shower Door Tips
Providing Structural Soundness for Shower Doors and Hardware
Q. What is the best way to hinge a door to ensure structural soundness?
A. Wood blocking or proper wood studding is recommended anytime a door is hinged from a wall. Although a single 2x4 is sufficient, doubling or tripling the studs in the area where the shower door will be hinged is recommended. This will allow for a wider surface in which to attach the hinges. It is important to have wood studs in place where doors and panels are hinged or anchored to offer the correct structural support.
