Semi-frameless and Framed Shower Glass Options
Semi-frameless and framed shower doors are available in bypass and swinging styles; enclosures can be built in many different sizes and shapes. However, these products are personalized even more by the customer’s choice of glass. As with all our glass showers, ABC GLASS AND MIRROR uses quality glass and metal that meet industry standards. As you create your semi-frameless or framed unit, one of our glaziers can help you discover glass with both the right thickness and the perfect appearance!
Since semi-frameless and framed showers contain aluminum framing – whether it be a lot or a little – they can be safely built with thinner glass than that which is needed on a frameless structure. The glass thicknesses for semi-frameless and framed enclosures are –
Various factors and conditions establish which thickness is best for a particular semi-frameless or framed shower. On a practical level, the amount of framing on a specific unit can impact whether a thicker or thinner glass should be selected. Customer preference is another issue since some appreciate the substantial feel of a heavier door. A final example is the matter of price since the cost is usually greater for thicker glazing. One of our shower door specialists can answer your questions about glass thickness and style, give you prices, and help you narrow down your range of workable options.
Can clear glass be used on a semi-frameless or framed shower?
Absolutely! Clear glass is a popular choice with many of our clients, including those who select semi-frameless or framed showers. Clear glass keeps the stall feeling open and bright; its smooth surface makes for easy drying and cleaning; and it allows for an unhindered view of the shower’s tile.
Is privacy or specialty glass available for semi-frameless and framed showers?
To achieve privacy, customers often opt for etched or patterned glass on a semi-frameless or framed shower. Both of these allow light to flow into the stall while obscuring visibility to a greater or lesser degree. Etched glass has been exposed to acid and looks frosted. This frosted effect can be in the form of a pattern or a uniform etching across the entire surface of the glazing. Patterned glass generates less seclusion and is distinguished by a gentle textured pattern on its surface. Some examples of these glass options are –
- Dots satin etch
- Low iron acid
- Single glue chip
Yes, two basic color options exist for customers who order semi-frameless or framed showers. Your choices for grey and bronze glass are –
- Solar cool bronze
- Solar cool grey
Options do exist for upgrading the glass used on your semi-frameless or framed shower.
- Low iron glazing options – Low iron glass has a higher level of clarity than typical glass. Since iron is a component of glass, it brings a slight green coloring to the glazing. This is less noticeable on specialty glass with lowered iron content.
- ShowerGuard glass – Manufactured in a different manner than regular glass, ShowerGuard glass repels staining and spotting. It is easier to clean and care for since the tiny surface pores have been sealed.
- ClearShield treated glass – Shower glass with a ClearShield coating also resists soap scum, mineral spots, etc. This coating is reapplied at intervals to maintain these properties.
