Four Types of Shower Door Glass

Choosing the right type of glass is crucial to designing a shower door or enclosure that will truly meet your needs and improve your bathroom’s décor. The kind of glass that is best for your bathroom depends on factors like who uses the shower and what look you wish to achieve.  Making an informed decision is vital, so you may want to talk to a glass expert before finalizing your decision.

Four basic looks in shower glass are:

   - Frosted

   - Patterned
   - Tinted
   - Clear

Each type has its pros and cons and offers unique features. In fact, an attribute that is a “con” for one homeowner might be “pro” for another family and vice versa. The best way to choose the ideal glass for your bathroom upgrade is to learn about the features of each type and consider which best addresses both your practical needs and your interior design goals.

Clear glass shower doors and enclosures are popular with homeowners today. Not only is clear glass trendy, but it matches everything and makes both the shower stall and the bathroom as a whole feel larger. For homeowners who have beautiful tile in the shower, it offers the added perk of keeping this tile visible, not hidden behind privacy glass or an opaque curtain.

While many are drawn to this glass because of its transparency, some bathroom circumstances lead homeowners to view this as a drawback. Examples include high-traffic bathrooms in which shower privacy is a must or a less than beautiful shower interior that you wish to hide.

However, it is also important to keep in mind that clear glass is easy to clean, due to its smooth surfaces. Also, ABC offers clear ShowerGuard glass which is permanently sealed for ease of cleaning and resistance to staining and corrosion.

A popular option in privacy glass is frosted (also called acid-etched) glass. This glass also coordinates with virtually any bathroom theme or color scheme and is defined by timeless elegance.
Due to its rougher surface, frosted glass will not be as easy to clean as clear glass. However, this can be addressed by ordering an EnduroShield coating on your frosted glass. This sealant will both protect the glass and make it easier to clean.

Another way to make a shower enclosure more secluded is by utilizing patterned glass. This product features a textured design on its surface. Many patterns are available, and they range from simple and sophisticated to bold and daring.
If you want to give your glass shower a very distinctive look, one way to do this is by having it built from your choice of patterned glass. Once again, the textured surface can make cleaning this glass more time-consuming, but the addition of EnduroShield will be helpful.

Finally, tinted glass is a fourth possibility to consider. Less popular than the other three, tinted glass is right for some bathroom décor styles. It has a smooth surface like clear glass and can be treated with EnduroShield for increased longevity and easy maintenance. ABC offers tinted glass in both gray and bronze tones.
