We are a family-owned and operated shop that offers quality materials, a customer service commitment, and customized items. When you want a glass-like look but need a material that does not break as easily, it’s time to explore safety glass options. Four popular types of safety glass are acrylic sheeting, polycarbonate sheeting, tempered glass, and laminated glass. Let’s take a more in-depth look at each of these, so you can determine which one is suitable for your project.

1. Acrylic Sheeting –
It can be seen in many places throughout Lake Ridge. You’ll find acrylic sheeting on greenhouses, enclosed patios, and deck railings. It is also used as a replacement for door and sidelite glass, picture frame glass, glass shelving, and glass tabletops. These are just some of the ways that acrylic sheeting can be valuable for homes and businesses. This product is far more durable than glass and is less susceptible to solar discoloration than standard polycarbonate. In addition to clear acrylic, which has a glass-like appearance, we sell and install colored acrylic sheeting. This is opaque rather than transparent and is just right for certain décor themes as well as privacy walls, etc.

2. Polycarbonate Sheeting –
Like acrylic sheeting, this product can be used in Lake Ridge homes, yards, and commercial buildings. In fact, it can be used in many of the same applications as acrylic. Perhaps you’re wondering how it is different. Polycarbonate sheeting is even stronger than acrylic, so strong that it is virtually unbreakable. This characteristic makes it great for certain safety applications, such as the creation of a protective screen to set up in front of a large power tool. It can also be an effective part of anti-intrusion efforts with its great durability. As mentioned, sunlight does cause standard polycarbonate to yellow more quickly than acrylic. However, ABC now offers an upgraded polycarbonate that has greater resistance to this discoloration.

3. Tempered Glass –
Unlike acrylic and polycarbonate sheeting, tempered glass is actually a glass product. Lake Ridge clients may prefer this option for installations where extreme durability is not needed. Tempered glass is significantly more durable than regular glass, so there is still less chance of it being fractured. Also, if it does get broken, it shatters into many small chunks. As compared to normal broken glass, it is easier to clean these up without personal injury.

4. Laminated Glass – Besides acrylic sheeting, polycarbonate, and tempered glass, ABC can also supply Lake Ridge residents with laminated glass. Like tempered glass, this contains actual glass and has the clarity of glass. However, it also contains vinyl. Basically, it is composed of three layers – glass, vinyl, glass. The glass is stuck to the vinyl, so if it is fractured it still remains in place. This is a good way to reduce the risk of injuries or messes from broken glass.
