7 Tips for Redoing Your Master Bathroom on a Budget

Lower the glass shower door price without sacrificing quality.

Pay less for a high-end custom glass shower door by choosing a semi-frameless, rather than fully frameless design. Since glaziers can use slightly thinner glass when some framing is present, the unit will cost you less.

Recoup some of your remodeling costs with a water-saving toilet.

Save a little on your utility bills each billing cycle by opting for an energy-friendly commode, designed to use significantly less water than a traditional unit.

Look for tile that is on clearance.

If your renovation includes new floor and/or shower tile, regularly check your local home improvement store for discontinued styles and other sale items. You can also include beautiful tile in the bathroom without breaking the bank by using plain, neutral tiles, interspersed with more decorative ones.

Get your new towels, rugs, and curtains at an outlet or outlet-type store.

Make a point of frequently browsing the shelves in the home décor section of stores like TJ Maxx, Gabriel Brothers, or factory outlets. You can also check the clearance racks at local department stores for bargains on curtains. Since you probably only need to treat one or two windows in a bathroom, you might just find what you are looking for among the items reduced for quick sale because they are the last of a particular style or design.

Watch for “scratch and dent” opportunities to save.

Sometimes you can save tons of money by purchasing an item with cosmetic damage that will not even be seen once it is installed. An example is a wooden vanity with a scratch on the side that will be up against the wall.

DIY and make your own items when practical.

Put your talents and hobbies to work saving you money as you refurbish your master bath. If you have the necessary skills and experience to carry out some of the remodeling on your own, this will be a huge money saver. Other possibilities include  –

    •  Sewing curtains for the window(s).
    •  Hunting for useful “finds” at flea markets, thrift stores, and auctions.
    •  Creating your own wall hangings and knick-knacks.

Upgrade your vanity mirror rather than replacing it.

If you want to switch to a framed mirror over the vanity, you may not have to buy a whole new mirror. Thanks to Precision Frameworks Easy Frame line, glaziers can often add a mirror to a frame already attached to the wall.
