Frameless Shower Door
When you decide to upgrade your bathroom with a glass shower door, there are three types of door from which you can choose. Which one is right for your shower enclosure depends on your tastes and the design of your bathroom. Understanding each of the options is helpful in making the right decision. Let’s take a closer look at:

Bypass doors
Frameless sliders
Swinging doors

Bypass Glass Shower Doors

Bypass shower doors have been around for some time, and they remain a popular space-friendly option. A system like this will have two door panels that move by sliding on small rollers in side-by-side metal tracks. This design is appealing for its simplicity, its versatility, and the fact that it takes up no floor space in the bathroom. With regard to construction, bypass door systems always include some aluminum framing. This means that they can be built from slightly thinner glass than frameless enclosures, which in turn means that they typically cost less.

Frameless Sliding Glass Shower Doors

Wishing to offer the popular frameless look as well as sliding door operation, shower door designers have created frameless sliders. These units are characterized by a frameless door panel alongside a fixed wall of frameless glass. (A second piece of fixed glass is added if a 90 degree return is needed to fully enclose the stall.) These units feature innovative systems that allow the door to glide open and shut without the need for aluminum framing.

Swinging Glass Shower Doors

Finally, a third option is found in swinging glass shower doors. This look could be found on a solitary glass door on a tiny shower in an efficiency apartment or it can be seen on a double door system that is part of a huge glass shower in a luxurious master bathroom. This door type is also timeless and can add elegance to a shower stall. One point of caution regarding swinging shower doors is clearance. Per today’s building codes a shower door has to be hung so that it can open out into the bathroom, even if it also swings inward. Before getting your heart set on a swinging door or double door system, make sure that there is enough room for it to swing open freely.
