You don’t have to wait until you can afford to renovate your bathroom to explore ways to make it look better. Here are five quick improvements that you can make today!

1. Add a new wall-hanging.

Adding or changing a wall ornament is a great way to quickly refresh a bathroom. Maybe the walls are currently bare, or maybe there’s a wall hanging that is dated or damaged. Visit a local department store, discount store, or thrift store and buy an attractive framed print that complements your bathroom’s décor.

Alternatively, you could make wall hangings and create a one-of-a-kind gallery wall if the room has lots of vacant wall space. Start by collecting unused picture frames from around your house. Then choose the color that will tie the gallery wall together and ensure that it coordinates with the bathroom décor. Next look for items to frame that feature or at least include this color. Possibilities include:

  • Photograph
  • Piece of upholstery
  • Children’s artwork
  • Formal document
  • Collage

2.Clean the glass shower.

This may not sound like much fun, but the results will be great. Thoroughly clean your glass shower enclosure so that can take its place as the sparkling focal point of the room. Be sure to use approved cleaning agents and to avoid abrasive sponges or brushes. Pay special attention to areas that may get neglected when you do your regular cleaning. These could include tracking, places where glass and metal meet, caulk joints, and glass shelves.

In addition to washing the glass and metal, you’ll want to clean the tile and grout lines and empty the stall of any wash cloths, shampoo bottles etc. Once the cleaning is done, consider whether additional storage options are necessary for maintaining the shower’s fresh, clean look. Perhaps a hanging shower caddy and small laundry hamper should be added to today’s shopping list.

3.Update the color scheme.

You don’t have to repaint or replace fixtures to refresh your bathroom with color. Simply choose a new color for the towels and rugs. Launder your current items and then store or donate them. Enjoy perusing the possible replacements at your favorite department store, and then select bath linen and rugs in a fashionable color that you enjoy.

4.Paint the trim.

If you’re ready to undertake something more adventurous, try painting the bathroom’s trim. You can use the current color and simply paint in order to deal with scratches and stains that mar the room’s ambiance, or you can make a more dramatic change like going from white trim to black.

5.Give the vanity top a new look.

Empty and scrub the vanity counter and then stop. Consider what items really need to be stored there, and only put those back. Stash everything else in the vanity, medicine cabinet, or linen closet. If storage and organizational solutions are needed for the vanity counter, add items like a toothbrush holder and soap dish to your shopping list. Finally, add at least one decorative item if space allows. Possibilities include a vase of fresh flowers, a small scented candle in a crystal holder, a little potted plant, or a basket of decorative soaps.
